Radio Clyde: Expanded & Remastered Edition
Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the release of an Expanded and Re-mastered Edition of
Radio Clyde. In order to
promote the release of his second solo album Wise After The Event, Ant
travelled to various locations in both Europe and the UK to give radio and
press interviews. For the UK radio interviews on this promo tour, Ant
took a guitar with him with a view to performing one or two songs live in
the studio and this arrangement was taken further with the offer from the
Glasgow-based Radio Clyde to record an hour-long session of songs and
instrumental pieces for later broadcast. Whilst variable quality
off-air recordings of the show subsequently circulated amonst fans, the
discovery of a copy of the session in Ant's archives afforded the
opportunity for an official CD release in 2003. This Esoteric Recordings edition has been
newly re-mastered and includes two extra tracks in the form of
performances of Reaper and Which Way The Wind Blows
that Ant played live on Pennine Radio in July 1978. It also includes an illustrated booklet with
a new essay by Jon Dann. The Expanded Edition of
Radio Clyde is available to order
now from
Cherry Red

Gypsy Suite
Remastered and Expanded Edition Originally released in 1995, Gypsy Suite is a 1978 recording of a four-part suite for two guitars inspired by Ant and Harry's explorations of different tunings. Ant and Harry first met in 1968 but it was not until the summer of 1971 that they had the opportunity to spend time together to write new material based on their joint exploration of unusual guitar tunings. The first three Movements of Gypsy Suite were the result of these sessions with a fourth Movement being composed in late 1975 before the Suite was recorded in March 1978. Gypsy Suite also includes the demo recordings of Movements I and II of Ant and Harry's other major collaborative work Tarka from 1975 and 1976 respectively. On this new edition they are complemented by a previously unreleased solo piano demo of Tarka Movement III: The Hunt recorded during the 1976 sessions, which has been newly mixed from the original multi-track masters.

Ahead of the Field
The first commercial release of Ahead of the Field, an album of library music that Ant was commissioned to compose by music publishers De Wolfe in late 1984. Ant composed a number of tracks for the album and scored a selection of them which were then recorded by some top session musicians (under the name X-Cess) in the spring of 1985, with the emphasis being placed on then-contemporary electronic drum and synthesiser sounds. Ant subsequently overdubbed some extra parts on the tracks which were then issued by De Wolfe as a vinyl album for use by broadcasters and film-makers on their Rouge Music label. Ahead of the Field is primarily a showcase of Ant as a composer rather than a performer. |
